The Perfect Human Hunter

A found footage horror following someone trapped in their own house by an Anthrophage, a man eating monster set out to hunt and torment him until he is too weak to stop it.

This was my first ever short film, and I really wanted to make something a bit unique. Found footage is an overdone genre, but I do think I did manage to genuinely create a tense and realistic atmosphere for a zero budget film set in my house.

Anthrophage was a play on my strengths, I was not a scriptwriter, and was not confident enough to make a film that was dialogue heavy, so that's why the film not only follows only one character, but many lines were improvised, with my directing pointing the main actor in the right direction for each scene.

I split the film into 6 different scenes and personally developed them each to my vision of the film, although it did all develop from the one 'scare' scene a few minutes into the film, which was inspired by some internet horrors like Vita Carnis.

Overall, I am quite proud of this, especially for a first attempt. There were a lot of problems with audio but I worked around it. The microphone I used had a small buzzing sound, so I just added a louder buzzing sound and made it part of the aesthetic. I wish I got the opportunity to do more with the prop of the monster, or made more than just the head. I also wish I got to make the character shoot his gun, which was part of the plan but we didn't have time to set up the lighting, even though I did have a plan on how to make it using a toggleable lamp. I may do more with the concept in the future, as I have written a script (Anthrophage: Reincarnated) which is a reimagined version of the story, and if I get the opportunity, I may make the film in the future.
